Novel Post-Translational Modification of ICA512
ICA512 is a major autoantigen of type I diabetes and a receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase-like protein enriched in insulin secretory granules of pancreatic beta cells. Data collected by two-hybrid screening in yeast and in vitro assays suggest that ICA512 is post-translationally modified in ways previously undetected. Hassan is currently establishing whether these modifications occur in vivo and how they affect the function of ICA512. In collaboration with Mirko, Hassan is also investigating the functional significance of the Ca2+dependent cleavage of ICA512.
